I was unhappy to see an article this morning about the US House Democrats "asking" certain of the nation's health insurers for detailed financial records as part of an "investigation into executive compensation and other business practices". Read about it here.
These are the same Democrats who are proposing legislation which will have life-or-death influence over the entire health insurance industry. These are the same Democrats who have been demonizing health care insurers and their executives.
Note well that insurers and other organizations that signed on to support "reform" were not sent these letters. Can I call this extortion?
This is appalling. There is no "probable cause", no warrant, no charge. This is a fishing expedition for political ammunition that the Democrats will use to further demonize the companies that provide this information.
I hope some of these insurance executives refuse this request. It is the kind of stand that Americans should support, lest we all end up at the mercy of the demagogues in Washington.
