Veterans groups have ‘grave concerns’ on health bill

Six high-profile veterans groups are raising objections to the House healthcare reform bill, warning House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) that it could jeopardize the care of millions of veterans.

Citing “grave concerns,” the groups are urging Pelosi to modify the House bill. If changes are not made, the veterans groups say they will actively oppose the measure.

In a letter to Pelosi that was obtained by The Hill, the groups state “the legislation could limit the health care choices for veterans, increase the cost of health care for veterans, deny coverage to dependents family members of veterans, and threaten the quality of health care offered to veterans through the VA health care system.”

No Guns for Negroes

National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Thwarted Despite Bipartisan Majority Vote

On Wednesday, July 22, by a margin of 58-39, a bipartisan majority of the U.S. Senate voted in favor of an amendment offered by Senators John Thune (R-SD) and David Vitter (R-LA) to provide interstate recognition of Right-to-Carry permits. The amendment to S.1390 -- the National Defense Authorization Act -- would acknowledge that the right to self-defense extends across state lines. Under this provision, individuals with carry permits from their home state, or who are otherwise allowed to carry a firearm in their home state, could carry in any other state that issues permits.

Despite the bipartisan majority of votes, the Thune-Vitter amendment did not pass because it fell just two votes short of the required 60 votes for approval.
This 60-vote approval threshold was decided upon by a procedural agreement between Senate leaders. The agreement was, in part, used to avoid a filibuster and any hostile amendments to the Thune-Vitter amendment.

Read the rest of the story here.

It is important to point out that both Senators Franken and Klobuchar voted against this amendment. I have in my possession a mailer from the Klobuchar campaign in 2006. There is a quote from Amy on it,
"I support the Second Amendment right to own guns for protection, collection or sport." Yet she voted against our second amendment rights. Hypocrite. I will be keeping this mailer for reference during her next campaign.

Where's the Apology?

Our apologizer-in-chief, who has travelled the world for the purpose of offering our regrets over past actions has uttered some highly regrettable words recently when criticizing a Cambridge, Mass. police officer.

Not only did he insult the Cambridge officer who made the arrest, but he cast aspersions on all police officers with his comment about "disproportionate treatment" of blacks and latinos.

You can read more about this here, and here, and here.

I won't repeat Mr. Obama's mistake, and spout words without basis, but I will say that if the facts of the case come out in a subsequent investigation - which I hope happens - Mr. Obama should respond appropriately.

I want to hear him do what he does best.  I want to hear an apology.

Mary Jo Kopechne, it was forty years ago

Mary jo kopechne

Got this from Atlas Shrugs Kudos to that great site!

Mary Jo Kopechne died 40 years ago today

Just past midnight on Saturday, July 19, 1969, Senator Ted Kennedy drove his black Oldsmobile sedan off a bridge on Chappaquiddick Island near Martha's Vineyard, just off Cape Cod. The Senator escaped a watery death, but a passenger in his car, twenty-eight-year-old Mary Jo Kopechne, did not.

The Democrat icon murderer, Ted 'Splash' Kennedy best represents the decadent and immoral standard of the utterly debased and corrupt Democrat party. He is their lion, their standard bearer (more like pall bearer).

"Senator Kennedy killed that girl the same as if he put a gun to her head and pulled the trigger." - George Killen ~ State Police Detective-Lieutenant who investigated the accident

Statements taken from witnesses:
  • ( 3 ) - Rum and Cokes aboard the Bettawin - (witness: Stan Moore )
  • ( 2 ) - Heineken Beers at the Shiretown Inn - ( witness: Joseph Gargan )
  • ( 1 ) - Rum and Coke in hot tub at Lawrence Cottage - ( witness: Jack Crimmins )
  • ( 2 )* - Rum and Cokes at the Party -( witness: Ted Kennedy )
*Because this number is based on Kennedy's inquest testimony, it should be viewed with some skepticism. The actual number of drinks was more.

The Manchester Union Leader reported that Senator Kennedy had charged 17 long distance telephone calls to his credit card during the hours he claimed to be "in shock" after the accident.

Farrar made his beliefs perfectly clear
:

Farrar repeatedly expressed the opinion that Mary Jo Kopechne had lived for some time underwater by breathing a bubble of trapped air, and that she could have been saved if rescue personnel had been promptly called to the scene. He had equipment to administer air to a trapped person directly or to augment an air pocket inside a submerged automobile.

"There was a great possibility that we could have saved Mary Jo's life," Farrar said. "There would have been an airlock in the car - there always is in such submersions - that would have kept her alive. If we had been called, I would have reached the scene in 45 minutes. I say 45 minutes because it was dark. ( The daylight recovery had taken 30 minutes ). The lack of light might have caused a delay of 15 minutes."

Kennedy killed that girl.

Kennedy gave multiple accounts of that night. (hat tip francois)

Oh and btw, fatboy is still alive.

Obama's Health Care Claims Adrift?

FACT CHECK: Obama's Health Care Claims Adrift?

The Associated Press

Calvin Woodward and Jim Kuhnhenn

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama's assertion Wednesday that government will stay out of health care decisions in an overhauled system is hard to square with the proposals coming out of Congress and with his own rhetoric.

Even now, nearly half the costs of health care in the U.S. are paid for by government at all levels. Federal authority would only grow under any proposal in play.

A look at some of Obama's claims in his prime-time news conference:

OBAMA: "We already have rough agreement" on some aspects of what a health care overhaul should involve, and one is: "It will keep government out of health care decisions, giving you the option to keep your insurance if you're happy with it."

THE FACTS: In House legislation, a commission appointed by the government would determine what is and isn't covered by insurance plans offered in a new purchasing pool, including a plan sponsored by the government. The bill also holds out the possibility that, over time, those standards could be imposed on all private insurance plans, not just the ones in the pool.

Indeed, Obama went on to lay out other principles of reform that plainly show the government making key decisions in health care. He said insurance companies would be barred from dropping coverage when someone gets too sick, limits would be set on out-of-pocket expenses, and preventive care such as checkups and mammograms would be covered.

It's true that people would not be forced to give up a private plan and go with a public one. The question is whether all of those private plans would still be in place if the government entered the marketplace in a bigger way.

OBAMA: "I have also pledged that health insurance reform will not add to our deficit over the next decade, and I mean it."

THE FACTS: The president has said repeatedly that he wants "deficit-neutral" health care legislation, meaning that every dollar increase in cost is met with a dollar of new revenue or a dollar of savings. But some things are more neutral than others. White House Budget Director Peter Orszag told reporters this week that the promise does not apply to proposed spending of about $245 billion over the next decade to increase fees for doctors serving Medicare patients. Democrats and the Obama administration argue that the extra payment, designed to prevent a scheduled cut of about 21 percent in doctor fees, already was part of the administration's policy, with or without a health care overhaul.

Beyond that, budget experts have warned about various accounting gimmicks that can mask true burdens on the deficit. The bipartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget lists a variety of them, including back-loading the heaviest costs at the end of the 10-year period and beyond.

OBAMA: "You haven't seen me out there blaming the Republicans."

THE FACTS: Obama did so in his opening statement, saying, "I've heard that one Republican strategist told his party that even though they may want to compromise, it's better politics to 'go for the kill.' Another Republican senator said that defeating health reform is about 'breaking' me."

Income Tax Cut, JFK Hopes To Spur Economy 1962/8/13

Liberals, high taxes destroying the Black family

Here's an article by a CD 4 Republican recently published in the Minnesota Spokesman-Recorder by Lucky Rosenbloom. I wish to point out that Lucky is a black Republican activist.

Liberals, high taxes destroying the Black family

Because of high taxes and government regulations, Black mothers cannot find affordable housing in urban neighborhoods. Let me tell you how the formula works.

It’s simple: Property taxes are going up, and this, matched with landlord regulations, equals high rental rates because the owners have to cover property taxes and the costs of regulations such as added repairs and/or stratifying housing codes.

All over the country, even here in our city, we see Blacks being forced out of their homes because of high property taxes, taxes on items needed for basic survival, and taxes on items needed just to live out your daily lives — not to mention death taxes.

Blacks just chill as Democrats talk about raising taxes. Minnesota is one of the highest taxed states; however, Blacks do nothing to block liberal Democrats from raising taxes, or taking money out of your check to cover deadbeat programs that do not work.

Look at your paycheck. Add up the amount of taxes taken out of your paycheck, each paycheck, monthly. Ask yourself a question: What else could I have done with that $600 or more dollars? You could have made a home payment, a car payment, or covered some pressing bill that threatens your livelihood.

Blacks need to say to the liberal Democrats, “Enough is enough.” Tell them their liberal spending and high taxes are destroying the Black family. Tell Democrats how much money is taken out of your paycheck and what you could have done with that income.

Ask them, “Why are you going to raise taxes even more? Why are you going to take even more out of my check, adding to the struggle of my family?”

It’s wrong for anyone to blame Republicans for the amount of money that is taken out of your paycheck. If it was left up to Republicans, you would have 60 percent of your taxed income returned. Think about that fact.

How much is taken out of your check to have 60 percent that would not be taken? What could you do with that money? Save for retirement? Buy that new car? Put money in the bank for the education of your children?

Historically, Democrats have always subjected Blacks to unfair tax practices. After the Civil War, tax laws were passed that made it impossible for the Black family to survive, not to mention the Black individual.

Tax laws were passed that pushed Blacks to pay poll taxes and occupation taxes. These taxes kept the Black man and the Black family in chains and were very hurtful, very evil, because they kept the freed slave family from gaining on the White Southern Democrat both economically and educationally.

Today, for Blacks to compete in society we must again be economically and educationally competitive.

High taxes are a tool used today to keep the Black man and woman in check. After slavery, if Blacks did not pay poll and occupation taxes, by operation of law they would be arrested and forced into labor.

Blacks must join hands and create another Negro spiritual. The lyrics could be something like:

“Democrats, listen to me as you take a legislative break, please do not raise taxes only to have u
s hurt by the money you will take.

“Oh, Democrat, taking food off my table is a joy that you feel, every time we have to cut back on our Black family meal.

“I am a loyal Democrat you must agree, but do not raise my taxes, or to the Republicans you will lose me.

“Now, you can have me join the Republican Band, or stop taking my money out of my paycheck, leaving more in my hand.”

Reality check: local liberal mayors and city council members are talking about raising taxes in order to have more police and firefighters on the street, which would include other City employment. With your hard-earned tax dollars, how many of these people hired will be people of color?

Liberals will take more of your money to create jobs for their relatives and Whites. In tough times, Blacks will pay more to support White liberal families, while the Black family suffers during this poor economy. I’ll bet some of you are agreeing with me now.

WARNING: Be on the lookout for terms and/or words such as “fee,” or “public options,” all sneaky words for raising taxes.

Gotta go and pay my October property taxes now.

US Out of Honduras!

The recent events in Honduras have arguably been a splendid example of a constitutional democracy at work.  A leader was violating the constitution.  The legislature and supreme court declared his actions illegal, and deposed him.  There is no bloodshed, and an apparent deference to the Rule of Law.  A recent historical summary can be read here.

Now the US, joined by the hemisphere's more notorious dictators - Castro and Chavez, are pressing hard to force the interim government of Honduras to ignore their own constitution and reinstate Mr. Zalaya.

The party of "We have no business being over there", is interfering "over there".

My question is, why?  Could it be that the current administration simply likes the populist, quasi-socialist policies of Mr. Zalaya?

There is no indication that there is anything improper about the actions of the current Honduran government.  The US government should butt out.

Unions OK drop of ’card check’ in bill

(AP) WASHINGTON - Organized labor is nearing a deal to salvage legislation that could aid the union movement, but it had to drop "card check" _ a key component of the original bill that would allow workers to form a union by signing cards instead of holding a secret ballot vote.

A Democratic official familiar with compromise talks on a bill to make forming unions easier said union leaders are willing to drop the politically volatile card check plan to win over wavering Senate Democrats.

Responsible legislators

I want to commend the US Senators who are standing up to the pressure being placed on them to ram through a massive and unwise health care bill.

As described in this article, 6 senators sent a letter to Senate leadership, takes issue with the speed with which the bill is being processed. (Senators: Susan Collins, R-Maine; Mary Landrieu, D-Louisiana; Joe Lieberman, I-Connecticut; Ben Nelson, D-Nebraska; Olympia Snowe, R-Maine; and Ron Wyden, D-Oregon)

It is not only unwise to ram through a massive bill like this, it is irresponsible.  I am proud of these Senators for doing their jobs and calling for appropriate due diligence.

Joke of the day!

A driver is stuck in a traffic jam going into downtown Chicago.

Nothing Is moving north or south. Suddenly a man knocks on his window.

The driver rolls down his window and asks, "What happened, what's the hold up?"

"Terrorists have kidnapped Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton,Oprah Winfrey, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, Rosie O'Donnell, Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. They are asking for a $10 Million ransom. Otherwise, they are going to douse them with gasoline and set them on fire. We are going from car to car, taking up a collection."

The driver asks, "On average, how much is everyone giving?"

About a gallon.

Unallotment, whine by whine by DFLers

From the Bemidji Pioneer,

Next up was the chief whiner for the Senate DFL Majority Caucus, Sen. Tarryl Clark, referring to the governor saying: “He’s not a czar, he’s not an emperor, he’s not a grand pooh-bah.” This after the Legislature spent five months in St. Paul and couldn’t produce a balanced budget.

The $700 billion slush fund

In the last year, we have heard a lot of hyperventilating about the economy.  The $700 Billion TARP legislation last fall was stampeded through Congress on the premise that the sky would indeed fall without it.

Now 8 months later, Secretary Geithner has indicated that he considers TARP to be a permanent "revolving" fund, which is not at all in keeping with the spirit of the presentation of this legislation to the American people. (There is an article here that describes where the TARP money has gone.)

The provision of such a "flexible" fund, such as TARP, is the very definition of lawlessness, and begs for corruption.  A $700 Billion slush fund for the US Treasury Secretary is a direct threat to our freedom and well being, and we should be pressing our Congress to end it immediately.
